Are you sick of the same old blogging tips anyone can find online?

Do you want to learn some real, actionable blogging tips that can help you produce the game-changing results you’re looking for?

The good news is that I’m going to cover five advanced blogging tips I use daily for my clients.

Below, you’ll learn and hopefully master the advanced blogging strategies that can help you take your blog to the next level.

Table of Contents:

  1. Use Answer the Public
  2. Use the Hemingway Editor App
  3. Rank for Featured Snippets
  4. Improve Your Blog’s Design
  5. Take Advantage of Video

1. Use Answer the Public

One of the first blogging tips I’m going to cover is using Answer the Public for content strategy. Answer the Public is a search listening tool that provides helpful insights into internet user habits when they search for keywords.

The tool was recently purchased by Neil Patel Digital and has been used by marketers to find out how people are searching for keywords. To better explain how this tool works, let’s use an example.

Let’s say that I want to find out how people are searching for the keyword “featured snippets”.

All I have to do is type in the keyword in Answer the Public’s search bar:

Once you click the “search” button, you’ll see a variety of the most popular questions internet users are asking:

Instantly, I see a lot of great questions like:

  • How to win featured snippets
  • Why are featured snippets important?
  • How do featured snippets work?

If I was writing a guide on how to rank for a featured snippet, these would be great headers or frequently asked questions (FAQs) I could focus on.

Answer the Public makes it easy to figure out what internet users want to know about a topic. It even lists questions in an alphabetical format and allows you to download all the data for content strategy:

If you’re creating how-tos, ultimate guides, or any kind of definitive content, using Answer the Public is definitely the way to go.

2. Use the Hemingway Editor App

The best blogs have a style guide to keep all of their content in uniform. If you want similar results, you’ll need to get with the program.

That starts with improving the readability of your content. The Hemingway Editor app makes it easy to:

  • Detect passive voice uses
  • Break up difficult-to-read text
  • Use fewer adverbs for sentence clarity

The best part is that the Hemingway Editor works like an online word processor:

This means you can create and edit your content just like you would in your website’s content management system (CMS).

3. Rank for Featured Snippets

Gone are the days when ranking for a featured snippet was optional. Now, featured snippets receive 35.1% of the total click share for a keyword.

This means that a person is 33% more likely to click on a featured snippet than any other search result. I think Kevin Indig, the head of SEO at Shopify and founder of Techbound, says it best:

All things considered, I see the SERP landscape becoming more of a winner-takes-it-all situation. You either rank at the top, maybe in a Featured Snippet, and get the majority of traffic or you don’t and hardly get anything. Of course, it depends on how many and which SERP Features Google shows for a specific keyword but in general, we’re witnessing Google trying to give the one, ultimate answer.

So, what is a featured snippet?

A featured snippet is an excerpt from a piece of content online that shows up first for a particular keyword. Here is what one looks like:

As you can see, featured snippets dominate a search engine result page (SERP). It’s best to claim a spot for your target keywords.

To do that, you should first browse the “People Also Ask” section for one of your target keywords or long-tail questions.

Let’s scroll down the SERP for the previous example:

As you can see, Google is providing a ton of questions people are also asking that relate to the keyword I just used.

What’s more, is that each of these questions has its own featured snippets. Look at the featured snippet for the question “What is a ok credit score to buy a house?”:

The good news is that the “People Also Ask” section continues to repopulate with new questions the more you click on it.

This provides a bunch of different opportunities to rank for one. Now, the next step is creating better content than what’s already featured as the answer to the question.

Google will only update outdated answers. This means you should sift through all of your featured snippet opportunities and see if you have something better to add, like a:

  • Recent study or statistic
  • More accurate information

Doing all of this is hard work, but it’ll surely pay off in the end.

4. Improve Your Blog’s Design

Sometimes the best blogging tips don’t focus solely on search engine optimization (SEO). Often, the best solution to growing your blog is to give it a makeover from time to time.

The data definitely backs this up. Internet users are very judgmental, forming an opinion about your website in as little as 50 milliseconds.

If your blog is outdated and needs a facelift, I recommend hiring an expert to give it the update it needs.

My recommendation is to use a light font paired with a minimalist design, bright colors, and plenty of whitespace.

Kinda like my website:

5. Take Advantage of Video

There are more than 600 million blogs on the internet.

If you want to gain an edge over your competitors, especially for competitive keywords, your blog is going to have to stand out.

The best way for your blog to stand out is to leverage video marketing. Here’s why:

  • 86% of marketers say that video marketing has resulted in more leads for their businesses.
  • 81% of marketers say that video marketing improves their sales.
  • 88% of people say they’re more convinced to buy a product or service after watching a video.

Convinced?

If so, invest in buying a quality video camera and editing software to get off the ground running.

Your videos can help in drawing traffic back to your website and provide more intrigue to site visitors that aren’t interested in reading.
